We Love Sunningdale

“Thank you so much for opening the doors of Sunningdale to me and my family. As you know, I love New England, and wanted to bring together a large group of family and friends to share the experience of a Maine summer while celebrating my 50th trip around the sun. Sunningdale proved to be the perfect setting for this event, exceeding all expectations and delivering an unforgettable experience for all.

En route to Sunningdale, I already began to receive texts from family members who arrived early: “Shockingly beautiful!”,  “Pictures don’t do it justice!”, “Stunning setting!”.   Sunningdale’s location on the shores of Sebago Lake is incredible.  The water is crystal clear, the view of the White Mountains in the distance inspiring and the sunsets absolutely jaw-dropping. Exploring the property brings you back in time. The restoration of the lodge, the boathouse, the cottage, the cabins and other structures is impeccable, worthy of a feature in Architectural Digest. And while truly grand, all the spaces are warm, comfortable and inviting.

The physical beauty of Sunningdale is captivating, but its true magic is in its design to engage and bring people together. Attention to detail has ensured that there is something for everyone. I can easily conjure a collage of memorable images: kayaking at sunrise; hiking nearby trails; lunching at mountain vistas; gathering to prepare meals together in the very well appointed kitchen; kids and adults alike, having the times of their lives, swimming in the lake, “sack-racing” and “egg-tossing” on the great lawn; friendly/competitive volley ball and tether-ball matches; roasting 8 chickens at once (yes 8 chickens!) on your XL Big Green Egg; the lobster boils overlooking the water; competitive games of “corn hole” and “string-ball”; enjoying an evening at the “theater” watching family perform their best on stage; cocktails at the boathouse at sunset, laughing and telling stories by a roaring campfire, a quiet night-cap in the exquisite great room of the Lodge, retiring while admiring the reflection of the moon on the water.

Kudos for making your vision for Sunningdale a reality. It is a beautiful and timeless place. More importantly it is once again what it was when it was founded so many decades ago, a place to convene, to explore, to celebrate, to reflect, to yearn for and to always remember.

Thanks again for sharing your very special place with us.”

“We couldn’t have imagined a better place.”

“Once you have stayed at Sunningdale, it becomes a mission to go back.”

Dear Sunningdale,

As a Wedding Planner who has specialized in Maine based, destination weddings for a number of years, I was thrilled to have been introduced to Sunningdale. Sunningdale, as a wedding venue is nothing shy of spectacular! Those who see Sunningdale quickly fall under it’s spell and cannot imagine their wedding anywhere else.

The property has maintained it’s authentic, lake-side lodge charm, with immaculate, well appointed amenities. The capacity for guests make it the perfect destination for an extended celebration with close family and friends. I have seen wedding parties relax on beautiful Sebago Lake for days, enjoying the luxuriousness of Sunningdale in the lead up to their wedding, truly creating a calming, joyful, dynamic for everyone.

Sunningdale’s “Rec Hall“ can easily be transformed into a “rustic chic“ reception venue, or a large tent can be accommodated on the lawn overlooking the lake. The boat house cannot be beat for the most extraordinary cocktail hour location, and the front lawn is a beautiful, inspiring ceremony location. Even the Rehearsal Dinner can be hosted in the stunning front room of the main lodge. Every aspect of a wedding can be beautifully executed at Sunningdale.

Dennis and Wendy, the property owners are so kind and easy to work with as well. They are passionate about Sunningdale’s history, and are proud and excited to see guest’s reactions to its beauty. The care they have taken to restore this camp has been amazing.

For couples looking for a wedding destination which truly inspires a unique experience…it would be hard to find anything that compares with Sunningdale. And the best part is to imagine coming back in future years for anniversaries! Once you have stayed at Sunningdale, it becomes a mission to go back.

“… one of the most amazing vacation weeks”

Dear Sunningdale,

Our family spent one of the most amazing vacation weeks at Sunningdale in the summer of 2015. Between the rustic, but luxurious setting, purity of the lake and the heart-melting sunsets, we were in awe every day. This is the place for family building memories. The place offers so many activities to chose from, biking, Kayaking, ping pong, nice book read or great cheese and wine in the beach house before sunset. The main lodge is equipped and furnished to perfection with stylish contemporary, but lake lodge feel, full with any item that one may need for a comfortable family stay, reunion, or retreat. The cabins are adorable and still have the reminiscence of the girls camp days, but very comfortable due to the substantial update and renovation. There is even the old stage/performance room, where the party can congregate – have your American idol wannabes and speech masters ready!

We absolutely loved it for all of this and the personal touch of the owners, but our kids will never forget the stories we told around the fire-pit over the tastiest smores one can enjoy!

Thank you Wendy and Dennis for an amazing and unforgettable stay!

“We were able to relax both indoors and outdoors—

both places were equally unique and special”

Dear Sunningdale,

“In order to escape the electronic and fast paced life we all lead, we met long time family friends at Sunningdale for a week of serenity and re-connecting. Whether we were paddle boarding, swimming, skipping rocks, or watching the kids put on an impromptu show on the stage, each moment exceeded our expectations. The place echoes the rustic history of the camp it was, while providing the clean and modern facilities we needed to keep us all comfortable and beyond happy.“

I highly recommend Sunningdale Lodge for any celebratory event you may be planning—it is a piece of Maine where memories are meant to be made!”

Dear Sunningdale,
Sunningdale Lodge made our special day better than we ever imagined. Our friends and family were able to relax and enjoy the wedding for the whole weekend. Everyone commented that it was the best wedding they had ever been to! The amenities allow for a worry free atmosphere rain or shine. Everyone loved the ability to have all the wedding events in one spot and the lodging allowed for all of our close friends to spend the weekend with us. The memories we have are priceless and its due to the unique and relaxing atmosphere provided at Sunningdale Lodge. My wife and I strongly encourage you to book your event at Sunningdale Lodge whether it’s a wedding or just a vacation get-a-way to enjoy with family and friends.

“The memories we have are priceless”

Dear Sunningdale,

In August of 2015, our team stayed at Sunningdale Lodge for their annual “bonding weekend”. Our group consisted of the girls varsity team (ages 13-17) and several of their moms. The purpose of this trip is for the team to spend the weekend participating in activities to promote team unity and bonding.

Sunningdale Lodge was the perfect place to make this happen, as it exceeded our expectations on so many levels. The area is absolutely beautiful. The lodge is only a few steps away from the water, offering convenience and wonderful views. There was plenty of space to accommodate our large group and endless activities to keep the girls entertained. They had a blast enjoying the water, playing volleyball, having s’mores by the fire and so much more.

Both the parents and girls were equally impressed with Sunningdale. We couldn’t have imagined a better place. The girls were able to bond as a team and left with amazing memories that will last much longer than their soccer season!

We were lucky enough to hold our wedding at Sunningdale Lodge in June of 2014. Having both spent every summer in Maine growing up, it was so important for us to share the beauty of the area with our friends and family throughout our wedding weekend. There is no question that this is one of the most special places on Sebago Lake, and really in all of New England.

Dennis and Wendy have renovated every detail of this gorgeous and expansive lakefront property with love and in excellent taste. Between the Lodge, the Rec Hall, the Boathouse, the beachfront and the lawn, we literally were able to get every thing we wanted all in one venue: a beachfront Lobster Bake Rehearsal dinner, a ceremony overlooking the lake, a rustic barn wedding reception, and days filled with lawn games, swimming & boating.

The best part is that so many of our family and friends were able to stay onsite in the Lodge and fully appointed cabins, which gave our guests an upscale take on the full Maine ‘Summer Camp’ experience, which they truly loved!

We absolutely plan to return to this amazing spot for another very special occasion, hopefully soon!
